Morocco Evacuates Tens of Thousands Over Flood Threat

Moroccan authorities have evacuated more than 50,000 people since Friday in the northwest of the country, mostly as a precaution against potential floods amid heavy rainfall, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday. Morocco has been experiencing continuous rainfall, particularly in the northwest, since last week. The General Directorate of Meteorology forecast in its Monday bulletin heavy to sometimes thundery rainfall, with accumulations ranging from 100 to 150 millimeters, until Wednesday in several northwestern provinces. Evacuation operations were concentrated in the city of Ksar el-Kebir (about 200 km north of Rabat), which has seen heavy rains causing flooding in recent days. It is located on the Loukkos River.
